The first factory for permanent metallic magnets in Yugoslavia was established on the initiative of the Institute for Electrical Connections at the start of the 1950’s.

In 1952 the factory was moved to premises previously used by a coffee roasting company, at Celovška cesta 207, where the serial production of aluminium-nickel alloy (AlNi) magnets began, for use in the manufacture of radio loudspeakers.
